Recently I saw a post on face book that said “Are you really living or just paying bills til you die”. There were several comments and more than most were just paying bills. My jaw dropped at the little yellow sad faces that people posted along with their comments. They said, sad but true just paying bills.
I wanted to shout from the top of my lungs “You Have The Power”. I felt it but didn’t shout it. I didn’t want to scare the only other being in this house, my kitty boy, Panama Jack (soon to be Just Jack).
Listen, everyone has bills, its part of living and being human. If you have the money to pay those bills it’s a big fat bonus! It’s a beautiful thing, but it’s not everything you are. You have a passion for something so find it. Let it out. Don’t let it shrivel inside of you. Don’t do the mundane. Don’t lose yourself into nothingness.
There are days when I don’t have any money at all but that doesn’t mean I have to stop living. Yeah I may wallow a little because I would like to have a bit more coin in my pocket. So what, if I want it I will get it. If I don’t get it I probably didn’t need it.
There are plenty of things to do that don’t cost anything at all. There are things that you can do to pull yourself out of the rut you are in. Make a move. Make a change. Do something, don’t just sit there on your ass. Or do, if that’s what you want but its your choice. If you are sad because all you are doing is paying bills and not really living then you have to make the change. Nobody can do that for you.
As I am sitting and writing this I am watching humming birds share a sugar-water feeder. There is joy in that. I watch them as they fly back and forth to the flowers and then to the water. All of them cramming their little bodies together on the feeder then flying off. I hear the croaks of the toucan in the distance. There is Joy in that. There is joy in sitting in gratitude.
I would say in the 30 minutes to an hour that you probably watch and or listen to the news, you could have done something more positive and loving for yourself. You deserve it. I deserve it. Remember the emotion that you put out is felt by those around you. If you emote sadness then those around are gong to feel it. If you emote joy and laughter then people will feel that.
Think about it, when I am pissed off or frustrated everyone around me can feel it. I caught myself the other day talking to a guy in a car (he couldn’t hear me of course, I was in my car) that made so many illegal driving manuever’s I couldn’t help but tell him what I thought. He did it right in front of three rows of traffic. I said what I said so loud that the car next to me started cracking up and then I started cracking up and it just changed everything. It was my choice to laugh about it. It shifted everything.
Don’t forget that a bill or a bank statement can not take away your ability to laugh out loud. A payment due notice can’t stop you from listening to a friend in need or helping an elderly person by opening a door for them. You have the power to change your day, your moment in time. Do you really want to sit for an hour in front of the TV listening to a report of death and destruction of the human race, or do you want to be a part of change in your life?
You have the power to make it different. Choose wisely because in doing so, it’s not only you who reaps the benefits. It will be those around you that you love the most, who will be thankful you did.
